TAP (Teacher-Advisor Program) -- TAP is a writing-intensive elective program for first-year students in CAS. In the fall semester, students enroll in one TAP seminar on a topic of common interest. The professor, who also serves as an academic advisor, helps further explore a student's interests and academic goals.
-
LASP (Liberal Arts Scholars Program) -- LASP is a residential learning community for first-year CAS students. Students live in the same residence hall together, and they take 3-5 courses together. LASP offers six separate options, in the humanities, fine arts, social sciences, the earth and environment, world languages and the natural sciences.

Undecided in CAS? There is a full-time dedicated academic advisor (Kim Hughes) who can support students through the process of selecting a major. She hosts events and connects them to campus resources such as the Major Fair and the internship program. 40% come into CAS undecided, and they receive this specific advisor that works with undecided students.

For my Geography Qualitative Research Methods class we were studying how to do a landscape analysis, so to practice we went up into the Old Mill tower and did a landscape analysis of Burlington from above. -Darcy Eliot

A bunch of advos where in a class with Poli Sci where we conducted research on how media shapes peoples political perceptions. For example watching game of thrones makes people distrust government. For our project we actually researched what people where watching in the beginning of COVID quarantine and how that affected their perceptions of the pandemic. It was so cool to do a event that was surrounding us everyday and conduct a giant research project with the class (had like 1,000 research participants.) We might even get published. - Owen Doherty

My first year my Tap Professor (Jan Feldman) was amazing we and she not only got to know each other in class, but also outside of class as well. She would tell us about her 2 donkeys (Aristotle & Plato) and about her farm. She even brought her dog in on the last day and took us to the top of the Old Mill tower. -Owen Doherty
