UVM Dining

Required talking points

  • Food is often a big part of the college choice, and there are excellent options for all diets at UVM.

    • We currently we have 4 “all you care to eat” dining halls and 12 retail outlets to get something to eat or drink.

    • Plus, we have a mobile food ordering app Bite Universities

    • Available options include vegan/vegetarian, allergen-free, Kosher, classic comforts, locally delicious, globally inspired meals made with fresh ingredients.

    • We have allergen-free entree stations on Athletic, Redstone, and Central Campus, plus a gluten and nut free pantry in all four dining halls.

    • We have a Registered Dietitian on staff who works directly with students. 

  • UVM is dedicated to providing local, ecologically sound, fair, and/or humane food.​

    • This past year we purchased from over 95 local farmers and producers, including UVM. We exclusively serve maple syrup from our very own maple trees.

    • Other popular local favorites include products like apples, cheese, and root vegetables.

    • Please note, this is no longer officially through the "Real Food Challenge" organization anymore, so please do not reference RFC in your tour.

  • CREAM and Dairy Bar

    • ​We purchase UVM milk from the CREAM program to be made into ice cream which is sold at the UVM Dairy Bar

Additional optional talking points

  • Other ways that UVM Dining supports sustainability:​

    • Composing & recycling

    • We use waste reduction technology in the kitchens

    • Eco-ware (re-usable take-out container program)

    • Trayless dining

    • Straws upon request

    • Donate a portion of excess food to the local food shelf

  • Cooking classes!

    • We offer cooking classes at Discovery Kitchen (our teaching kitchen), located inside Central Campus Dining Hall, which can be accessed through your meal plan.

    • Plus, we work some of the residential learning communities providing hands-on culinary classes and workshops including a cooking series for off campus students.​

  • Other:

    • ​We are one of the larger employers of students on campus, and host internships in nutrition, sustainability, and marketing.

    • Only real Vermont maple syrup is served on campus!  All of our maple syrup comes from UVM’s very own maple trees.

AdvoCat Stories

  • In my second year, I had a meeting with the on-campus dietician who set up dining accommodations for me. I was able to call in to the dining halls before I got there to get my own GF meal. -Avi Bauer
